A large blast was heard on Monday 2nd November in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad, but there were no immediate reports of casualties, police and witnesses said.

The explosion, believed to have been caused by a car bomb, struck a hotel on Mall Road. Pakistan Army’s headquarters, GHQ, and the State Bank of Pakistan building are located nearby.

Ambulances and police have arrived on the spot and have begun rescue efforts for those trapped under the debris.

Casualties have yet to be confirmed, but eyewitnesses report that several have been injured.

The area has a high security ‘safe zone’ of Rawalpindi.
